Lewandowski-Werner swap deal on the cards?

Chelsea and Bayern Munich could be set for a shock striker swap in January, with a potential deal involving Polish star Robert Lewandowski and German international Timo Werner heading in opposite directions.

The link comes via Football.London citing The Transfer Window Podcast, with Ian McGarry stating that the two clubs could find common ground surrounding the two leading men;

“It is certainly the case that he (Pini Zahavi) has offered Lewandowski to Chelsea and Granovskaia.”

Such a deal would see Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia finally land a deal Lewandowski, a player she has targeted on multiple occasions, and forming a potential devastating striker tandem at Stamford Bridge alongside Belgian star Romelu Lukaku.

Should any deal occur and Werner be shipped back to Germany, he would once again join forces with Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann; a man that extracted the absolute maximum out of the VfB Stuttgart academy graduate, with Werner smashing 28 Bundesliga goals in 34-league appearances under the young tactician in the 2019-20 season that prompted a move to Chelsea the following summer.

German international linked with other potential suitors

Bayern Munich are not the only potential suitors that are interested in courting Timo Werner after the German has found it difficult to adapt to life at table-topping Chelsea, with both Manchester United and Barcelona weighing-up potential moves for the Stuttgart-native.

The same report from Football.London mentions that new Man United interim boss Ralf Rangnick could push for moves for both Erling Haaland and Timo Werner, citing Sport BILD‘s Christian Falk referencing Rangnick’s relationship with Haaland’s father, and his previous work with Werner when he brought the German to RB Leipzig while he was still apart of Red Bull’s footballing arm.

The Chelsea forward was also mentioned as a potential target for Barcelona under new boss Xavi as the Catalan giants try to sort their attacking options amid injury concerns.
